Lonely Planet declares Crotia as destination

No. 1 in world.

Lonely Planet, the world famous publisher of tourist guides, has

declared Croatia to be the world’s most popular destination in 2005.

In what has now become a tradition, each December writers,
journalists, photographers and other associates of this publisher meet to
select and announce the best destination throughout the world for the
coming year.
Following its position in fourth place, which it achieved last year, this
year Croatia moved to the very top of the survey, the reason being its
unique combination of culture, history, cuisine, accessibility and
affordability – which was how Lonely Planet defined its statement of 31
January.

One of those surveyed described Croatia's nomination as follows: “The
country attracts a wide range of travellers with its wealth of varied
attractions, while at the same time it is not overcrowded by tourists. It
has an excellent infrastructure which is able to meet the demands of
adventurers and comfort seekers alike. This is Croatia’s year!”

As with previous surveys, the first five spots in the popularity table stand
head and shoulders above all others. Following Croatia, in consecutive
order, are: China, Argentina, the U.S.A. and, sharing 5th place, are
Australia and New Zealand (even in points). Behind them come Laos,
Libya, Vietnam and Thailand.
