GROHOTE, a village on the island of Solta, 3 km from the coast
and the Rogac harbour; elevation 107 m; population 631. Economy
is based on farming, viticulture, olive growing, livestock
breeding, processing of synthetic materials and production of
building materials. |

Situated in the very heart of the island, Grohote is the largest
and oldest settlement on Solta. It is famous for its painters,
representatives of the so-called naive art (Eugen Buktenica,
Dinko Sule, Marin Kalajzic). Grohote also has the Music Choir "Olinta"
and the Huntsmen Society "solta". |

In Grohote visitors may buy the famous Solta honey, pollen and
propolis, as well as taste some of the local specialities. Among
the events held in Grohote, the most important feast day is the
Assumption of Our Lady (15th of August), accompanied by a folk
fiesta. |
